Texas statute and TBCE board rules define and interpret what a licensed chiropractor is allowed to do in Texas. Many chiropractors are trained to provide far more services to patients than a Texas license actually permits, but training does not drive scope. Each state has its specified scope. Even specialty board training does not change one’s scope. It is therefore important to note that great detail has been tended to in order to not confuse the public on the scope of Chiropractic and its place in society on this site, RSS feeds and associated sites.
Texas Chiropractic Scope of Practice and Advertising: Texas statute and TBCE board rules define and interpret what a licensed chiropractor is allowed to do in Texas. Many chiropractors are trained to provide far more services to patients than a Texas license actually permits, but training does not drive scope. Each state has its specified scope. Specialty board training does not change Texas chiropractic scope. Scope of Practice can only be changed by legislative action. For example, Texas Chiropractors cannot treat diseases or disorders, such as diabetes, hypothyroidism, infertility, schizophrenia, Parkinson’s, colic, diarrhea, asthma or constipation.
FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE IN MUSCULOSKELETAL DISORDERS & THE TEXAS CHIROPRACTIC SCOPE ONLY**
The term Functional Medicine or “FM” has created a need to explain FM it as it pertains to the chiropractic scope. With the advent of modern times, the use of the new term “Functional Medicine – FM” has created a scope paradigm with many specializations including the practice of Chiropractic in Texas over the last decade. This area of cross scope integration occurs specifically with the musculoskeletal system. This paradoxical paradigm therefore, requires an explanation in terms of the Texas Chiropractic clinical scope. I have personally asked the Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners of its position in the use of the term in electronic media. The TBCE’s position has been such that when using the term “Functional Medicine”, we should clearly position the term from a clinical point of view discussing treatments of chronic disorder pertaining to the musculoskeletal system. Therefore, in simple terms, we only use “Functional Health, Functional Wellness & Functional Terms” and protocols to treat injuries or chronic disorder of the musculoskeletal system specifially within our “Chiropractic Scope of Parctice”. To that end, that is exactly how we use our term and is how we practice within our scope. We also present additional researched clinica data about many other areas of Functional Medicine* as a service of informational relay only to our readers. With this in mind, a concerted effort has been placed on our sites to describe Functional Medicine Type Protocols as Functional Health or Functional Wellness Protocols.
Our postings and supportive studies focus on within chiropractic scope procedures. At times there may be supported researched claimes presented on our sites and within our posts that have supported claims outside of our clinical scope of practice. In such cases, we provide the researched articles availible to the public or the Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners upon request to support the current research.
We do not treat outside of our clinical scope and our intent is to provide a wholistic understanding of the presented studies.
If you got this far in reading this disclaimer I thank you for taking the time.
It is prudent to advise all who may read from our webpage, blog and RSS feed site the following:
I am a fully licensed Chiropractor with Certification in Chiropractic Spinal Trauma (C.C.S.T) and as such I treat musculoskeletal issues within our scope. I do not treat visceral issues such as diabetes, hypothyroidism, infertility, schizophrenia, Parkinson’s, colic, diarrhea, asthma or constipation as indicated above. I am licensed and responsible to guide my patients within my scope and refer out of my scope.
My site provides health awareness provided my many data streams. I pray that my patients and the public can be exposed to ever changing additional information that can help guide in the proper clinical direction. If you or a family member have a question please feel free to communicate with me personally about any content on this site, redirected site, referral sites or backlinked sites.
Having said that, I am licensed to know what is outside my scope in each jurisdiction and refer to the appropriate provider. I have been practicing nearly 3 decades and take great honor in the trust my patients and community have placed in me. I too have been blessed to understand the breadth and width of the medical excellence of my medical community. We have great providers in our community, that have excellent skills. If I interpret patients to need to be outside my scope, I will refer accordingly.
